Do Not Buy A New Business Phone System Without Voip Capability

Some of the most honest and sincere advice a telecommunications professional can give a business

when evaluating telephone system technology options for their business is to make sure they buy a telephone system with VOIP capability. It is estimated that over 90% of new business telephone systems shipped in 2010 will have VOIP capability, and we will evaluate the reasons for that trend, as well as explain why owning a phone system with VOIP capability has become a necessity even if you don’t use the features at the time of purchase.

It would be best to start with a brief description of the different types of VOIP systems available. Not all flavors are the same, and each carries their own benefits. VOIP tends to mean many things to many people, so let’s make sure we are speaking the same language before starting. There are two main areas of VOIP to cover:

VOIP Telephone Service: Defined as the ability of your telephone system to interface with a telephone service provider via your data connection to make your calls over the public internet. SIP trunking is the most popular method of interface on the commercial level, but we will not be covering this transport method in this article. VOIP telephone service promises some more competitive pricing mainly due to increased T1 usage due to compression, but few phone systems interface with VOIP providers at this time. Each manufacturer has to go through a rigorous interoperability testing procedure in order verify Quality of Service with each carrier. Very few systems have completed this process with the few carriers that are out there. Some think of this as “free long distance” or “flat rate long distance” that is far more competitive than standard business offerings.

VOIP Capable Telephone Systems: When we speak of a VOIP capable telephone system, we are directly referring to the ability of the phone system to use the Voice Over Internet Protocol language to carry your telephone conversations internally or between locations. We are not speaking of the ability to make your phones calls over a VOIP Telephone Service Provider as detailed above. Using VOIP internally allows you several benefits.

Shared wiring infrastructure: VOIP conversations require typically between 16k-64k depending upon compression levels, so the data wiring infrastructure of a typical office running CAT5e cabling can share the same 100M cabling for both voice and data. Voice is prioritized over data to protect call quality, and dozens of phone calls could be made simultaneously without noticeably affecting data speeds. Using a shared wire infrastructure saves on wiring installation costs as well as wiring maintenance costs.
Ease of Moves, Adds, and Changes: Changes in configuration that typically required a technician site visit in the past are now possible to do internally quite easily. Although many manufacturers will argue that they can now perform this functionality via TDM technology and web interfaces, it was VOIP systems that brought this ability to the forefront with industry changing ease. For any company that knows their phone system technicians on a first name basis, the ability to administer your own system will dramatically alter your total cost of ownership. Reduction in MAC charges have made the VOIP systems highly desirable simply because they cost less to maintain. System administration is now something that can be internally for over 95% of programming changes.
The ability to connect offices: With VOIP capability, you can now connect offices through managed data connections to utilize your phones systems more cost effectively than ever. This gives clients a more transparent experience when dealing with employees from multiple offices, and it allows businesses to offer a more customer friendly environment. Toll bypass is an added benefit and eliminates costly toll charges between locations when using VOIP. The business case for more cost effective use of manpower has been startling. The ability to have a single receptionist to handle calls for multiple locations can often pay for a system within a year. Allowing employees who were previously tied up with answering calls to move to income generating activities can prove to be a financial coup depending on company size and configuration.
The ability to manage remote employees: A major trend nationwide has been to hire remote employees for various tasks. They may be sales, support, or operations related, but the common challenge for all companies has been the effective management of those employees. With a VOIP system and a managed data connection, you can literally hook up your remote employee to your phone system with a VOIP telephone. Doing so gives the employer access to all of the same management tools they enjoy internally with other employees. You can see real time availability on the phone, number of calls made, calls received, talk time, and all other relevant information with the right software applications.
Ease of database integration: For companies that use CRM packages with TAPI or IMAP interfaces, having a VOIP system can prove to be an incredible production tool. Incoming calls can be routed to the desired party based upon programming and assignment in the CRM. Screen pops allow users to see who is calling before choosing to answer calls, send to voice mail, or transfer appropriately. Desktop call control also gives users the ability to dial numbers with a click of a mouse right out of their contacts. Users can use all of the features and functionality of their desk phone from their PC screen. Since manpower is typically the highest cost for any business, having tools that help make employees more efficient to the tune of several minutes a day can provide incredible paybacks.
IP Softphones: IP Softphones have proven to be an incredible tool for the right application. Make a lot of calls overseas? Have employees who travel frequently and need to connect to the phone system from hotels? Need to connect from tradeshows real time with line appearance? With a software driven SoftPhone, you can have complete phone system functionality from your laptop or PDA device with a USB headset for a phone! Many new applications are coming.

There are numerous other benefits that VOIP systems provide over their more traditional TDM counterparts, but we limited mention to the main ones above. While TDM phone system options still remain a viable solution that is slightly more cost effective up front, we find that the projected TCO or Total Cost of Ownership is often less with a VOIP system due to the available feature set and production efficiency tools. For those companies that have only one location, telecom professionals will typically recommend a hybrid system. A hybrid system is a business telephone system based upon cost effective TDM technology, but that has the ability to add VOIP capability via a media gateway card. Although VOIP may not be a service priority to a company today, it is essential to make sure you have future capability should you choose to implement it at a later date.

Perhaps one of the last things companies consider when making a phone system purchase, but one they should probably consider a little more, is the phone system resell value. Since telecom professionals regularly assist their clients in the process of liquidating their old equipment, they are very much aware of what old equipment is worth. As with most aging electronics, there is minimal value that can be expected after five years, but a startling trend has been showing up in the past year. Systems without VOIP capability have next to no value. When companies attempt to liquidate systems as little as five years old, they often find they have no takers since the systems have no VOIP ability. The dramatic shift to VOIP has literally wiped out generations of used telephony product value, as there is literally no demand. There will always be some demand for used inventory for the major manufacturers such as NEC, Avaya, Cisco, Nortel, and Toshiba, but all others look to be extremely weak investments at this time. Although resale value should not be a major consideration when choosing which system to purchase, business owners should be aware that choosing a system with VOIP capability from a major manufacturer will virtually guarantee a reasonable resale value down the road. As always, we suggest you speak to your local telecom professional for assistance in choosing which system is right for you.

Considering The Economics Of VOIP Phone Service

It seems like everywhere you go these days, people are talking about the VOIP phone service they got and how much they like it.

Many college students do not even have a regular telephone in their dorm room or apartment, but instead they opt for VOIP phone services. What is all the hubbub? Did you ever feel like you were missing something and did not know what it was?

VOIP might be a good thing for you but you need to be sure you understand what it is and what it is not. VOIP phone service has disadvantages that you need to be aware of so you can decide if VOIP is for you.

VOIP phone service uses your existing high-speed Internet connection and allows you to make and receive phone calls over the Internet. That is the entire bottom line summary of what VOIP is. But you need to dig under the surface a bit in order to determine if VOIP is right for you.

First of all, not all parts of the country can get a local phone number. If you live in a rural area, chances are that a LOCAL telephone number for your VOIP service is not going to be available. What that means is that if someone local wants to call you, even your next door neighbor, they may have to make a long distance call to reach you.

Yes, you can “port” your existing phone number to your new VOIP service, but there have been so many horror stories about how the phone companies screws that up that I would not recommend that option. It SHOULD be simple, it should be seamless, but like many other things, the reality of what happens does not reflect the simplicity of doing it.

You also need a high-speed Internet conection and this is not provided with the VOIP service from any of the VOIP providers. They assume you already have this. In most cases they are right as the price of home DSL and home cable Internet prices keep going down. But even if you already have high-speed Internet access, you should carefully consider the following two points:

1. A high-speed Internet connection does NOT include satellite. If you have a satellite high-speed Internet connection, do not consider VOIP because you will not be happy. Sure they will SELL it to you but with a satellite high-speed connection, you will not be happy and you will sound like you are talking from the bottom of a bathtub in best case.

2. Is your existing high-speed Internet connection reliable? Remember, when your high-speed Internet connection goes out, so does your VOIP service and you will not be able to make or receive any calls. If you are on DSL and your speed is very slow because you are at the end of their pipe, VOIP is going to likely be a problem there too.

Now if you have not been scared away yet, then VOIP phone service might be a good idea for you. VOIP conversation quality is typically as good as or better than your traditional phone conversation. But the big draw for VOIP is the economic considerations. With your phone company, a phone line costs about $25 a month and for that you get a dial tone and perhaps unlimited local calling. That is it and everything else is extra. But with VOIP phone service, you get unlimited calling throughout the entire continental US (some VOIP providers also include Canada), plus caller ID, plus voice mail, plus call waiting, and the VOIP service costs about the same amount of money, and with some VOIP providers, even under $20 per month. Even if they are the same, the fact that long distance is already included in your VOIP service is a huge benefit.

Converting Celsius, Fahrenheit, Kelvin and Rankine

There are many temperature scales: fahrenheit, celsius, kelvin, rankine, newton, romer, reaumor, delisle. Why the scientist want to mess up with all of them ? The answer is: math. Math is the thing that make all laws working, and when the math is simple, everyone understands.

Different temperature scales has different advantages. For example celsius is for humans, at 0 degrees celsius the water freezes, at 100 degrees celsius the water boild at normal pressure.

The kelvin scale is simmilar to celsius, but added 273 to it, is the international system temperature measurement unit.

The fahrenheit scale is used in the US. Why, i’m not sure, 0 degrees celsius means 32 fahrenheit ? maybe for binary sistems ? Just joking…

The most interesting scale is delisle, which has higher value for cold temperatures, and lower value for hot temperatures. Maybe it is done for ecuations that have to deal with the temperature variable as negative. And using such a scale simplifies the ecuations.

The Rankine scale is similar to fahrenheit scale, the transformation between those 2 is simple.

The other scales are nor so important nor funny.

How to quick convert from fahrenheit to celsius ? The formula is a bit complex, Fahrenheit = Celsius * 9 / 5 + 32, but is we don’t want the exact value and we need just to estimate, we can consider 9/5 which is actually 1.8 as 2. And then the math is not so complex.

Be careful, don’t get under the trap of thinking that if 0 celsius = 32 fahrenheit then 10 celsius means 42 fahrenheit. You actually have to double the value if you want that quick conversion. 10 celsius is closer to 52 than to 42.

If you are near a computer or near a mobile phone, or something else that might grant you an internet connexion, you can use an online temperature converter. I recommend Tampile temperature converter, you can find it at: fahrenheit to celsius.

Other funny thing about the temperature conversion is that programmers are using this example ( building a temperature converter ) in the way of learning a new programming language. This happens because he has almost all features needed to get used with that new language: input, math, output.

Before temperature converters to take in place, people used tables and graphs to convert temperatures, they have all values listed in long piece of papers, and they searched with their eyes for the line with the value known, and then on that line there were the values representing the other scales. I’ve done a simple research on google insight or answers websites and many many people still looking for temperature converting charts and graphs.

Other way to convert temperatures is to make an excel file and add functions to it. Add the formulas for the temperature conversion in it, and when you enter value in one box, the other will auto complete with the calculated value.

Here are the formulas for converting from few of temperature scales:

Celsius = Kelvin – 273.15
Fahrenheit = Kelvin × 9 ⁄ 5 – 459.67
Rankine = Kelvin × 9 ⁄ 5
Delisle = (373.15 – Kelvin) × 3 ⁄ 2
Newton = (Kelvin – 273.15) × 33 ⁄ 100
Réaumur = (Kelvin – 273.15) × 4 ⁄ 5
Rømer = (Kelvin – 273.15) × 21 ⁄ 40 + 7.5

All of the above formulas are relative to kelvin, to get the reverse or other conversion, just work on this formulas, or go to wikipedia and search for temperature conversion, you have there formulas for all scales.

If you still having trouble to understand temperature scales and why there are so many, you should go to primary school again and learn all over it.

How Can We Stop Global Warming

Global warming is an environmental hazard, typically characterized by rising average temperature of planet Earth, owing to natural as well as anthropogenic causes. The issue of global warming seems to be quite intricate, and as two groups of scientists – one stressing on the fact that global warming is occurring and the other claiming that global warming is a hoax, find themselves at loggerheads, the common man is left wondering how can we stop global warming from getting worse in a bid to prevent a certain disaster.

Simple Solutions to Stop Global Warming

Keeping problems for tomorrow doesn’t really help in solving them, but does worsen them. Same is the case with global warming. By the time the scientists come up with a concrete statement whether global warming is happening or not, the effects of global warming on Earth are bound to engulf the planet. If you are one of those people trying to figure out how can we stop global warming as a desperate measure to save our planet, the information given below will show you several simple yet efficient ways to prevent global warming or at least minimize its ill-effects.

Use Environment Friendly Electrical Appliances
You can replace electrical appliances like your refrigerator, which emits greenhouse gases with environment friendly appliances. In fact, replacing a regular incandescent light bulb with a compact fluorescent light bulb, popularly referred to as CFL, can help in saving 60 percent energy and avoid the release of 300 lbs of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere each year.

Reduce the Use of Vehicles
You can reduce the use of vehicle, which is one of the major sources of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere. Instead, you can resort to walking, cycling or use of public transport as the means of conveyance. Other then helping us to curb global warming, this will also prove to be beneficial for your health.

Drive Efficiently
If you can’t avoid or reduce the use of vehicle, you can still do your bit to save the planet by driving efficiently. Following simple tips for efficient driving, such as turning ignition off on red lights or avoiding frequent acceleration and braking, can ensure that you use less fuel, and thus cause less pollution.

Plant More Trees
Among the several ways to help stop global warming one of the most convenient one is planting trees. Trees are essential as they tend to absorb carbon dioxide and help in maintaining the required balance in the atmosphere. Other then absorbing carbon dioxide, trees also help by giving out oxygen and attracting rain bearing clouds.

Reduce, Reuse and Recycle
Implementing the three R’s i.e. reduce, reuse and recycle, is one of the easiest option among various global warming solutions at the individual level. For instance, reducing the use of paper will save a number of trees, which will in turn absorb carbon dioxide and help in reducing the greenhouse gases in the atmosphere.

Raise Your Voice
As a responsible citizen of this world, you can also pitch for laws requiring the industries to cut emissions which are among the important causes of global warming. Everybody knows that industries are the biggest polluters of the environment, but we don’t care as they don’t affect us directly. What we fail to understand is that if we don’t act now, by the time we ourselves start feeling the brunt it may be too late to act.

How To Track a Cell Phone

Cell phones are most easily lost or forgotten among most of the gadgets that people use. They are also the most easily stolen gadgets worldwide. In such a scenario, it helps if you know hot to track a cell phone that may be lost. It can help you track lost cell phone location and increase the chances of retrieving it. Another way in which how to trace a mobile phone location can come in handy is, to keep an eye on your son or daughter’s whereabouts. In times of emergency, cell phone tracking can enable you to locate a missing person’s location. Whatever be the reason, being able to track a cell phone location always comes in handy. Here I discuss how to track a cell phone using the latest innovations made available by technology.

There was a time when the only way you could track a cell phone was by using advanced telecommunication equipment, access to which was only limited to government agencies. However, today, thanks to recent advancement in communication technology, any one can track a cell phone easily. Let us see how to track a cell phone using this newly available technology and ensure cell phone safety.

How to Track a Cell Phone Location?
There is one way in which you can track a cell phone and it is quite effective. Every facility provided by technology has its downside and the cell phone tracking facility can be used for nefarious reasons. I write this article with the faith that you the reader wants to know how to track a cell phone for your phone’s security or for keeping an eye on the whereabouts of your children. Let us see the two ways in which you can track a cell phone location. Even if you know how to track cell phone number, once SIM card inside the phone is removed, there is no way you can trace the phone. By knowing how to trace a mobile phone location, you increase the chances of retrieving your phone in case it’s lost.
One smart way of tracking a cell phone is to get a GPS chip installed in it. Most new mobile phone models like the Windows Mobile and Blackberry already have this facility. In case you don’t have a GPS chip installed in your phone, ask the manufacturer if your cell phone model has the facility. If it has, get the chip installed immediately, according to manufacturer’s instructions.

Once the chip is installed, you need to check if your cell phone service provider has GPS capability. Most of the big service providers like Sprint, AT &T, was well as Verizon provide this facility. The newly launched Disney mobile for kids has an inbuilt GPS tracking facility.

After ensuring that your service provider provides you with GPS facility, you need to subscribe to a GPS tracking online service like one provided by AccuTracking or Mologogo. These sites charge some nominal fees for the tracking service.

Once you are subscribed with the site, you can download a tracking software from their website, that enables the tracking of your cell phone and you can know the whereabouts of whoever is using the phone. The software needs to be installed on the tracked phone itself. You can do it by downloading it on your computer and transferring the software on to phone, using PC to phone data transfer cable. Install it on your mobile and activate it.

Present the phone to the user after completion of the installation and activation process. Now whenever you want, you can track the cell phone location by visiting the website and logging in. It will show the location on a map and some services will also provide information about the altitude and speed of travel of the phone. So, the GPS chip along with these tracking service providers give you a complete cell phone tracking solution!

Hope this article has given you a good idea of how to track a cell phone location. If you are wondering how to trace a cell phone numbers, then that can be done using Google Latitude. To know more about it visit Google’s page devoted to it. GPS enabled phone tracking can let you rest easy about the security of your phone and your loved ones!

Who Invented the World Wide Web

“Hey sis, can you tell me who invented the thermometer?” asked Joel to his sister Isabel. “I need to make a project out of it for school”. “Why don’t you try the searching it on the Internet; just type in www.buzzle.com and you will find your answer there.” replied Isabel.

This is a common scenario in almost every situation where one needs some information, news, read the latest blogs and get some data for a project. The most common 3 letters in today’s world are ‘www’, that stand for World Wide Web. What is this World Wide Web and how does it work? Let us know more on World Wide Web before moving on to who invented the World Wide Web and when. You can read more on domain name system.

What is the World Wide Web

World Wide Web is a system of resources that help a viewer to view and interact with a number of information related to anything under the sun. One can access the World Wide Web from a computer that is connected to the Internet, that is globally interconnected to computer networks. One can easily move from one resource to another and navigate through the World Wide Web through an application known as World Wide Web browser client. This browser client present formulated text, images, sounds, etc, in the form of a World Wide Web page design. One can even click on hyperlinks and navigate to other related World Wide Web pages on the same computer, server or any other World Wide Web server on the network. You can read more on how does the World Wide Web work.

All pages on the World Wide Web are formulated using Hypertext Markup Language (HTML). The information transferred on the computers is by using a set of rules called the Hypertext Transfer Protocol (HTTP). As you can see, someone with a lot of common sense that could be applied practically was busy working to create the World Wide Web that has helped interconnect every computer on the planet. So before we go on to see who invented the web, let me answer the second common question first. If you too are wondering when was the World Wide Web invented, then the answer is in 1989 at the CERN, the European Particle Physics Laboratory.

Who Invented the World Wide Web

The Internet was present before the World Wide Web was invented. Internet or Advanced Research Projects Agency Networks (ARPAnet) was funded by the US Military. This was aimed to have a military command and control center to withstand a nuclear attack after the cold war. The ARPAnet was used to distribute information between different computers located in different geographic locations. The TCP/IP communications standard was created by the APRAnet that is used even today. In 1969, the ARPAnet was opened to public use and many computer wise geeks found new ways to share computers. You can read more on who invented the Internet.

The history of World Wide Web began with the help of an Englishman, Tim Berners-Lee. He along with help of Robert Cailliau and a few others at the Conseil Européen pour la Recherche Nucleaire (CERN) developed the World Wide Web. Berners-Lee was a graduate in physics and joined the CERN in 1980. Because CERN, today known as European Particle Physics Laboratory, was so large and had thousands of researchers working, he developed the first hypertext system. This would help keeping track of those who worked on a project, the software associated with the program and the software that ran on the computer. The first hypertext system was called Enquire by Berners-Lee.

In March 1989 Berners-Lee completed his project proposal for the system to communicate information. His project had two main aims, one an Open Design. This means the system could run on any computer with a software like Unix, VMS, Macintosh, NextStep and of course Windows. The second goal was the ability of the system to be distributed over a communication network.

Robert Cailliau joined Berners-Lee and helped him run the first World Wide Web conference. In 1990, after a month spent developing the first web browser, Berners-Lee deployed a program on his and Cailliau’s computer. Thus, they became the first people to communicate through world’s first web server on December 25, 1990 at info.cern.ch.

Their first project was to put the entire CERN telephone book on the web site. This project gained immediate response and all the employees at CERN accessed the telephone directory only through the web page. CERN was connected to ARPAnet in 1990. Thus, Berners-Lee could post a notice in August 1991 on the alt.hypertext newsgroup to download the web server and line mode browser. His web server took the world by storm and web servers were downloaded across the world.

Soon, Berners-Lee added the FTP protocol to the server. This made a wide range of existing web directories immediately accessible though a web page. In June 1992, Berners-Lee was sent to United States by CERN for a three month trip. Here, he met Tom Bruce who is the creator of the first PC web browser Cello.

So, by now you may have guessed the answer to the question who invented the world wide web and when, as Tim Berners-Lee invented it in 1989 at CERN. You can read more about him in Tim Berners Lee Biography. World Wide Web is truly a masterpiece created by a genius. Today, one cannot imagine life without the World Wide Web and the Internet. Internet has had a global impact and turned the old idiom, “It’s a small, small world”, into reality.

What is a Hybrid Car

As the fossil fuel reserves on the planet are getting over at an alarming rate, the search for an alternative source of energy to fulfill our needs has just intensified. Although we are yet to find any source of energy which has the capability of fulfilling the overall energy requirement of mankind, a concept advocating the use of hybrid technology in vehicles does seem to be quite promising. So how does this concept of hybrid cars actually work. The information on hybrid vehicles given below will help you in understanding what is a hybrid car and how does it work.

What is a Hybrid Car?
In a broad sense, the term hybrid cars is used to refer to those cars which use two different sources of power to facilitate locomotion. More recently, however, this term has been associated with cars which use the traditional internal combustion engine and the battery operated electric system to power the vehicle, either simultaneously or independently. Generally, these cars sport a conventional engine powered by gasoline, and an electric motor powered by a bank of batteries in the car.

In mild hybrid cars, an electric motor and a battery assist the internal combustion engine. In full hybrid cars, on the other hand, the electric system and internal combustion engine both, either work independently or work together to power the vehicle. There is yet another version of hybrid cars – the plug-in hybrid cars, wherein the primary source of power is an electric system, while an internal combustion engine is used as a backup.

How does a Hybrid Car Work?
Basically, a low capacity internal combustion engine and an electric motor powered by high-capacity battery is used in hybrid cars. The low capacity engine is used as the primary source of power when the car is in operation. However, when the car requires more power, in case of ascending a slope or traveling on a highway on a constant speed for instance, the electric motor powered by high-capacity battery swings into actions. In some hybrid car models, both the systems work together, whereas in some both the systems work independently. In cars where both the systems work independently, only one system is in use at a given point of time, while the other is switched off. In normal vehicles powered by combustible engine, a decent amount of energy is lost during braking of the vehicle. In hybrid cars, however, this energy is stored in the batteries, and eventually used to power the electric motor in the car.

Pros and Cons of Hybrid Cars
Like the cars running on any other source of power, even hybrid cars have their own pros and cons. Less pollution and better mileage are the most prominent advantages of hybrid cars, while use of high voltage batteries and high initial investment are the disadvantages. Both its pros and cons have to be taken into consideration to determine whether hybrid cars are the future of transport system or not.

This was brief information about what is a hybrid car and how it works. The fact that hybrid cars offer an environment friendly and relatively inexpensive mode of transport has ensured that their popularity has increased at a steady pace over the last few years. And if trends are to be believed, this rise is expected to gain momentum in the near future.
